Participation in events sponsored by organizations representing groups present in the community interested in broadcast employment issues

On May 25, 2007, the KNAZ station manager met with Professor Craig Allen from Arizona State University to view and evaluate senior level broadcast journalism projects. The Outcomes Assessment helps the university to measure the effectiveness of its curriculum in preparing broadcast students for first jobs.

The KNAZ Station Manager participated in the Internship Career Day at Arizona State University on April 14, 2008. Conducted 20 individual interviews with perspective interns.

The KNAZ Station Manager participated in scholarship judging at Northern Arizona University sponsored by the Arizona Broadcasters Association. Interviews were conducted with 3 students seeking tuition assistance.

During this period, KNAZ hosted approximately 20 tours with approximately 10 participants in each group. Groups came from local schools and organizations such as Scouts.

Co-sponsor at least one job fair with organizations in the business and professional community whose membership includes substantial participation of women and minorities.

From June 13 – 16, 2007, the KPNX/KNAZ Human Resources Manager attended the National Hispanic Journalists Association convention to meet with journalists regarding employment opportunities at KNAZ and Gannett.

On September 11, 2007, the KNAZ/KPNX Human Resources manager and the KNAZ Station Manager met with over 150 students at Arizona State University’s Cronkite School of Journalism Media Career Fair about jobs at 12 News.

On April 3, 2008, the KNAZ/KPNX Human Resources Manager participated in the Arizona Broadcaster’s Association’s Career Fair held at Scottsdale Community College. There were over 176 attendees at the fair.

Training programs established to develop station personnel to acquire skills that could qualify them for higher level positions.

Talent coaching: (3) members of the KNAZ on air staff took part in personalized training with the KPNX talent coach.

The KNAZ Chief Engineer takes part in monthly Tech/Ops meeting at KPNX in Phoenix. These meetings provide opportunities to expand work knowledge in the area of digital television and IT.

The KNAZ Station Manager regularly participates in the KPNX Operating Committee (OC) and Extended Operating Committee (EOC). The OC involves KPNX Department Heads. The EOC includes all KPNX supervisory and management personnel. This committee has input into the decision-making and leadership responsibilities of the station and is included in training for potential department head positions. A KNAZ Sales Manager and two Account Executives took part in sales training at KPNX in March, 2008, hosted by Gannett’s Wayne Freedman.

A KNAZ Account Executive participated in a training seminar pertaining to political advertising. The seminar was sponsored by the Arizona Broadcasters Association. The conference provided valuable training into the regulations surrounding television political advertising.

A KNAZ Production Supervisor attended a seminar dealing with excelling as a first-time manager or supervisor. The seminar was conducted by SkillPath. .
