Band of doctors helping kids

Champagne Tap (the band) was born out of regular musical jam sessions at guitarist, Erik Ramnath's, house three years ago. Being single, Erik had turned his house into a rehearsal and recording space, affectionately called: Highland Studios. Erik was a medical resident at Maricopa County hospital and came into contact with Phoenix Children's Hospital's chief pediatric resident (and lead singer), Matt Barcellona. Both had rotated through the office of Greg White, who was - at the time - chief of pediatric orthopaedic surgery at PCH, and bass player for the former doctor band, 4 Car Garage. Add in computer geniuses Odie Munoz (drums) and Erik's brother Al (guitar) and Champagne Tap was born!

"I didn't know that Champagne was served out of a Tap," you say? Well.....in the medical world, when a spinal tap is performed, fluid is drawn off from around the spinal cord and sent to the lab for analysis. If it is performed perfectly, the fluid is clear and has no blood in it.....this is called a "Champagne Tap" - plus it also pays homage to the classic '80's rockumentary, "This Is Spinal Tap," which the band strongly recommends that their fans rent or buy!

"What do they sound like?" Every song that will get your feet moving from Alice In Chains to ZZ Top.....Champagne Tap is a cover band (with one original to date). They have performed in a variety of venues around the valley, including Martini Ranch, Alice Cooper'stown, and the former Anderson's 5th Estate. They also are big on charity work and have raised thousands of dollars for children's charities over the past couple of years.

"How can I check them out," you ask? Their next gig is Saturday, May 17th at the Club Mardi Gras in Scottsdale. This is a charity rock-n-roll fashion show, called Frock-N-Roll which will feature local clothing designers and models showing off their new lines of fashion (think Project Runway on Diet Rock Star energy drink).
