Obesity is among the easiest medical conditions to recognize but most difficult to treat. It is essential that goals be directed toward prevention with the emphasis on healthy family lifestyles that include nutritional knowledge and increased physical activity.
Childhood obesity is a serious public health epidemic:
During the past four decades, obesity rates have soared among all age groups, increasing almost fivefold among children ages 6 to 11.
Today, more than 33 percent of children and adolescents are overweight or obese. That's nearly 25 million kids and teenagers.
Research shows that obese adolescents have up to an 80 percent chance of becoming overweight or obese adults.

Every school day, 52 million young people attend more than 110,000 schools across the nation. Given the size and accessibility of this population, our schools can make an enormous, positive impact on the health of the nation.

This first week for our family on a "plan" has been a challenge to say
the least. You don't realize how "free" you are until you have a "plan".
The boys have enjoyed picking recipes from Jyl's cookbooks and boy
has it been easy to have an idea what is for dinner the night before. Our
challenge comes with whether we have a baseball game to run to, a work
out session with Bob (Strength of America, Mesa), how much homework
do the boys have, is Mark working overtime.............etc...........life! The first week for the boys has been allot of whining. The workouts with
Bob (only one so far) did a number on the muscles that we have not communicated with for awhile, if ever. Landon has started playing baseball
with a new club ball team and he was introduced to the team with a double
header, the day after his first workout. Logan too, has been playing fallball
and with his growth spurt and workout..........it's hurting good! Lucas is happy with an extra cookie and a hug from myself or Mark with alittle bit of whining
from the soreness as well. The boys are very faithful with wearing their pedometers (Lucas lost his the first day) and writing down our steps every
night has been a great wake up call for how much we really do in a day. We are looking forward to more workouts and getting rid of some of the soreness as we all grow stronger, although it is hard now, we all know that
it is the best thing for us and it is wonderful for us to come closer as "planetrusso" and keep working together! Until next time
