Following a nationwide search, 12 News has named James Quiñones weekday evening weather anchor. Quiñones was recruited to Phoenix from KGTV-TV in San Diego.
The move to Phoenix marks a chance to come back home to the Southwest; Quiñones was born and raised in New Mexico. Quiñones has forecast weather patterns across the country, experiencing extreme floods and tornados. His weather career has taken him from Brownsville and Corpus Christi, Texas (KRIS-TV) to Providence, Rhode Island (WLNE-TV) to most recently San Diego, where he’s worked for the past 10 years.
Quiñones is active in the community and 12 News viewers can look forward to seeing him broadcast his forecasts frequently from community events. He says one of his main goals is to give back to the community and help others achieve their own dreams and ambitions. He’ll get a quick start in that area. In addition to his forecasting duties, he’s been named the lead reporter for the station’s long-time volunteer recognition program, 12 Who Care, which recognizes outstanding non-profit agencies.
