Facebook Families

Sara Patterson grew up in the Mid-West. She got married and she and her husband left Indianapolis a year and a half ago bound for the valley. They moved to North Phoenix and her husband went to work. So did she. She works part time, at home, for a CPA firm. They have two children, one 3 year old ,Trinity, and a 6 month old, Sadie. Life is busy.

The family misses the friends they left behind so they decided to try Facebook to help them keep in touch. Facebook is a social networking site that allows users to post pictures, comments, chat with friends and link those "friends" to other sites. It even reminds a user of birthdays. It can easily connect you to people from your high school and college and as it does your "friend" wall grows. You can look at their information and they can see yours.

Sara says it's helping her keep in touch with people she may otherwise never talk to. It also allows her to reach a lot of people at one time. She'd much rather hop on the computer than dial a phone.

But there is one downside. In order to see Sara's profile and pictures, users have to sign on with Facebook as well. And that may be easier said than done. First of all, users need to click on a link to answer some questions and then the site automatically goes through your email address book to see if anyone you know is already on. One click on those and they're alerted that you're joining the network. Then it goes through that persons "friends" and it asks if you know any of them and so on and so forth. Once you get through that you can easily tap into all your friends profiles and keep in touch.

It may not be for everyone, but those who use it seem to love it. To see for yourself go to www.new.facebook.com/facebook.com.com
