How to be a better Flirt

Whether you’re in the grocery store or at the gas station, have you ever noticed how some people just get extra attention? Clerks smile at them, other customers offer to help them. Man or woman, some people are just masters of the art of flirting.

Need an example, walk around the new W Hotel in Scottsdale. The beauty of the surroundings perhaps matched only by the pretty people inside, more than a few honing their flirting skills.

Ciara Smith calls flirting “fun and interesting”. She says a look and a smile say a lot. Dennis Johnson says he looks for a smile and a girl doing the classic hair toss. Johnson says, “there’s just a certain look and you know what it is.”

For those less familiar or comfortable with classic flirting signals, there’s Flirting 101. The class, offered at Paradise Valley Community College, teaches men and women how to come out of their shell. Dating Coach, Joann Cohen, leads her students through quizzes and lesson plans designed to build confidence and inspire their inner flirt.

For men, she suggests watching George Clooney in Ocean’s 11. But, she says watch the movie with the sound turned down, “It shows a very confident man and that confidence is very important for men to show.”

For women, she advises working on your walk. Cohen says, hold your head high and let your hips sway, and don’t rush.

For both sexes, she offers this final flirting tip … “if you don’t feel it – fake it’. No one is confident all the time, says Cohen. But, if you act confident, no one may ever know you don’t feel like the coolest kid in the room.
