Monsoon 2008: A Whole New Season 12 News special to air Tuesday, June 10

PHOENIX – There’s a big change happening in the 2008 monsoon season, the seasonal shift in wind that delivers enough moisture for sudden and possibly damaging thunderstorms. The National Weather Service has changed the official dates for the season. The 12 News Weather Plus team will explain that change and take a closer look at the potential for violent summer weather in a 30-minute special; Monsoon 2008: A Whole New Season airing Tuesday, June 10 at 7pm.

Hosted by the 12 News Weather Plus Team, the program provides an informative and easy-to-understand look at Arizona’s monsoon, including:

• What prompted the National Weather Service to change the way it marks the official start and end of the season.
• The most destructive storms and heat extremes of last year’s monsoon.
• Advice on survival skills including driving in a dust storm, avoiding heat-related illness and the deceptive danger of ultraviolet rays.
• The monsoon forecast for 2008.
