Below you'll find a Thanksgiving recipe submitted by 12 News Weather Plus Meteorologist Sarah Walters. She scored it from her mother-in-law, who won 2nd place in the L.A. County fair with it.
What you'll need:
1 cup sugar
2 tbsp flour
1/8 tsp salt
½ tsp cinnamon
1 tsp Rum extract
2 tbsp butter or margarine
4 canned pear halves
4 cups diced Granny Smith Green apples, peeled
Double batch of pie dough (for pie shell & layer on top – 2 rolled out pieces)
What you'll do:
Mix sugar, flour, salt, and cinnamon. Add to diced apples & mix well.
Crush pears and spread in the bottom of a pastry-lined pie plate. Sprinkle pears with rum flavoring.
Heap apple mixture over pears & dot with butter or margarine
Put on the top piece of dough. Seal & crimp. Cut slits in the top.
Bake at 400 degrees for 45 minutes. Enjoy!
