Read for the Record

Tens of thousands of students across the country and around the valley will be reading the same book on the same day. It's all part of Jumpstart's Read for the Record. It prepares children to read at an early age.

We will all read the children's classic, "Corduroy" by Don Freedman. When you buy the book 100% of the proceeds will go to reading programs.

Phoenix Public Library offers these tips to get your child reading at an early age:

Parents are their child's first and best teacher.
Read 20 minutes throughout each day to your child from the day she/he is born.
Make reading fun. Choose a good time to read, when you and your child are relaxed and happy.
Have books available in your home, car, purse. Create a reading world.
Visit your local library to borrow the best board and picture books and attend storytimes.
Let your child see you reading.
During your daily activities, make a game by pointing out letters and words.
Tell family stories to your child using photographs or memories.
