She's an 8th grader who's on the honor roll in school and she's also an honor roll human being in her group home. Katelyn is a mentor to younger children in that home. She told me she likes having that kind of responsiblity. And she's just 13 years old. Katelyn said the kids in the home have their tough days and sometimes they try to make each other mad but usually she's the one trying to bring order to chaos.
Katelyn has a 3.5 GPA and she's on the honor roll. She told me her steadfast rule is to come home from school, do homework *first* and then play or watch tv. When she grows up, she wants a career in equestrian therapy. I asked her how she became so interested in horses. She said, "When I was adopted the first time, my mom took me to a horse ranch and I've liked them ever since." She told me even though horses are large animals, they can have a calming effect on even the youngest of children.
