Wedged between Scottsdale Ferrari-Maserati and Scottsdale Lexus will be dozens of moderately priced used cars, including the likes of Honda, Mitsubishi and BMW.
Aside from the obvious class and price differences of vehicles sold by flanking dealerships, Scottsdale Wholesale Outlet will allow Penske Automotive dealers to unload their growing number of used vehicles of all makes.
"These will typically be cars that still look good and are mechanically safe, but don't fit our retail outlets," said Michael Famileti, area vice president of the United Auto Group and general manager of the outlet.
Eighty to 100 used vehicles that pass a safety and mechanical inspection, Famileti said, will be available at wholesale prices. The lot is on Scottsdale's Motor Mile along McDowell Road, between 64th Street and Scottsdale Road.
"It's a negotiation-free process," he said. "The price on the window is the price it's going for."
The business, which opens in mid-July at 6855 E. McDowell Road, will employ eight to 10 non-commission sales staff and will be open Wednesdays to Sundays.
The business is awaiting a banking license to offer in-house financing before opening at the location at the former Audi dealership.
The idea for the outlet began during a meeting of Penske Automotive Group dealership managers seeking space to sell the 200 to 300 trade-ins they get per week.
Should the outlet concept take off following the Aug. 1 grand opening, the additional auto sales could boost Scottsdale tax revenue.
