Freeway closures, restrictions this weekend

Another weekend, another round of freeway closures.

Several freeways will be closed or restricted through early Mondayas the Arizona Department of Transportation continues to build carpool lanes and increase traffic capacity.

• Northbound Arizona 51 will be closed between 32nd Street and Loop 101 from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for restriping and overhead sign work. Traffic will be detoured north on 32nd Street, east on Shea Boulevard, then north on Tatum Boulevard to Loop 101. A similar closure along southbound Arizona 51 is scheduled for Oct. 3-6.

• Southbound Loop 101 will be closed between Shea and Thomas Road from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for removal of temporary concrete barriers. Traffic will be detoured west on Shea, south on Hayden Road, then east on Thomas to Loop 101.

• Westbound Loop 101 will be narrowed to one lane between Princess Drive and Tatum Boulevard from 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for installation of a temporary concrete barrier. Drivers are advised to take alternate routes to avoid the jams.

• Northbound Loop 101 will be narrowed to one lane between Ray and Baseline roads from 10 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday to place a temporary concrete barrier. Northbound on-ramps at Ray, Warner, Elliot and Guadalupe and the off-ramps at Warner, Elliot, Guadalupe and Baseline roads will be closed. Frontage roads will remain open.

• Southbound Interstate 17 will be closed for rubberized-asphalt paving from Thunderbird Road to Dunlap Avenue from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday and again Oct. 10-13. Detour routes include the southbound frontage road and southbound 19th and 35th avenues.
