Pollsters, take note: The Barack Obama cookies are slightly outselling the John McCain variety at Tammie Coe Cakes in downtown Phoenix.
The pastry shop has been baking the $2.50 vanilla sugar cookies for about two weeks, ever since Obama/Biden's state headquarters moved in across the street. They will be available only at Coe's 610 E. Roosevelt St. location through the Nov. 4 election.
Manager Sia Trujillo said the shop sells 40 to 50 Obama cookies a day, largely because of the proximity to the Democratic headquarters. The store has been selling fewer McCain cookies but keeps both varieties in stock. Cookie eaters, like voters, deserve a choice in this election.
Customers are voting with their wallets: More than four dozen cookies were ordered for debate parties last Friday. Cookies are white, topped with candidates' logos.
Adam Hedberg, 30, a Phoenix art researcher has bought each kind and says, "The best thing I can say about each candidate is they're associated with such good cookies."
