Peoria is joining the American Cancer Society to raise awareness and funds to fight breast cancer.
The city will have a team participating in the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk Nov. 8.
Peoria Fire Department crews also will be wearing pink uniform shirts in support of the efforts Oct. 29-31. The Police Department is allowing officers and employees to wear pink ribbon pins, and pink ribbons will be displayed on fire and police vehicles.
The community can get involved by purchasing shirts for $15 each from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Peoria Community Center, 8335 W. Jefferson St. The profits from the shirts' sales will go to "Pink Power," Peoria's team in the cancer walk.
The shirts, art work and screening are being donated by Peoria Firefighter Charities and Az Hotshots Screen printing, Signs, Embroidery, Web Design and Promotional Items.
