Fourth could boost First Friday attendance

The patriotic spirit that emerges for the Fourth of July celebrations could help boost attendance at today's First Fridays art walk.

That's the prediction from Jennifer Delgado, president of the downtown Roosevelt Row Community Development Corp.

The organization sponsors street closures for a portion of the First Fridays. To help with safety and encourage pedestrian traffic to shop at the approximately 60 art vendor booths set up, the group sponsors the closure of Garfield Street between Fourth and Sixth streets; and Fifth Street between McKinley and Garfield streets.

First Fridays is a free monthly self-guided art walk downtown. It runs from 6 to 10 p.m. monthly.

First Fridays fell on July 4 in 2003, and Delgado said there was a good turnout.
