Vote for your favorite light-rail slogan

Respect the rail?

Mind the track?

Train your brain?

One of these could be the winner in the Metro light-rail safety-slogan contest, which drew more than 1,500 entries from 1,100 sloganeers.

Contestants have their eye on a prize worth more than $500: a yearlong pass to ride Metro light rail.

The goal: to find a slogan that effectively reminds people to be careful when walking or driving near the trains.

Reporters and editors at The Arizona Republic, which organized the contest, narrowed the contest entries to 10 finalists. Voting begins now and ends at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday.

Metro, which sponsored the contest, will choose a winner from the top vote-getters.

"We're very impressed with the top 10 list," said Rick Simonetta, Metro CEO. "We think there certainly are a few on there that we could make work really well for what we're trying to do."
