The Paradise Valley Unified School District is searching for a new school superintendent.

At stake: A new superintendent for the Paradise Valley Unified School District.
Superintendent John Kriekard is retiring at the end of the school year.
Update: After receiving five responses to a Request for Proposal and a recommendation from the evaluation committee, the governing board decided to hire Ray and Associates Inc. The district will pay the firm $45,500 to help it find a new superintendent. The new leader will begin his or her job on July 1.
Evaluation Committee: Anne Greenberg, governing board president; Tom Elliott, assistant superintendent of business services; and Ken Carter, director of purchasing.
What you get for $45,500: Consultant travel, advertising, mailings, postage, telephone, Web site, copying, printing and candidate travel as part of the national search.
Additional info: Board members hope to hire a new superintendent after winter break. Students return to school from the break on Jan. 5.
What's next: The consultants met with board members Tuesday to discuss a more detailed timeline, a candidate profile, the interview process, advertising and salary and benefits.
