A 16-year-old died Tuesday morning after the vehicle she was traveling in was shot at, officials said.
At around 12:48 a.m., Melissa Vigil, 16, was traveling in a pickup truck with four other people in the 2200 block of West Hidalgo Avenue. Several male suspects ran out of a house and shot at the vehicle, hitting Vigil, a Phoenix Police Department press release said.
Vigil's friends rushed her to the South Mountain Precinct, where an officer performed CPR until she was taken to a local hospital where she later died.
No further information was available about the several male suspects who shot at the vehicle and investigations were still pending Tuesday morning.
