Recognizing that horse riders need designated places to access the Maricopa Trail, the county's parks and recreation department will dedicate the Anthem Equestrian Trailhead Thursday.
The trailhead, near 11th Avenue and Desert Trails Drive, provides a place for runners, hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders to meet in a secure nature, said Shareen Goodroad, president of the New River/Desert Hills Community Association.
"With the growth we've been experiencing, preserving equestrian access is more and more important," said Goodroad. "We're all used to being able to ride out of our backyard. For trail riders, for myself and my family, it's very important to have a regional trail system to enjoy our hobby and recreation."
DETAILS: 9:30-10 a.m. Thursday. Open to the public. Refreshments provided by Pulte Homes.
