St. Mark's offers Family Matters Workshop

This News by You was submitted by Carillon Torgerson.

How do I get my teenager to respect me? How do I discipline in a loving way? What if I find a family member abusing substances?

If these questions or others are bothering you, plan to attend an upcoming Family Matters Workshop at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 3030 E. Thunderbird Road in Phoenix. Admission is free.

The workshop will be Aug. 17, beginning with a free lunch at 12:15 p.m. after the 11 a.m. worship service. Presentations will begin at 12:45 p.m., and children and youths are invited to join in games, activities and discussions just for them.

The workshop is designed to give participants keen insights into how all things impact the relationships in our homes, in marriages, parenting and siblings. You may choose from three topics of discussion.

The first is "Birth Order: What it means to you and your relationships," led by Jeff Davis, a local Christian educator and teacher, currently teaching psychology and U.S. history.

Second is "Parenting, boundaries and grace-filled discipline," led by Sarah Rees, a local school psychologist.

Third is "Helping individuals and families confront and overcome addictions," led by Gleniss Sundheimer, an registered nurse in Arizona schools.

All three leaders are members of St. Mark. "In the celebration of family, we welcome friends and neighbors into our church family to support, nurture and grow together in Christ," Rees said.
