Motorcyclist killed in collision with pickup

A motorcyclist was killed about 4 a.m. Monday after striking a pickup truck in the intersection of Pecos and Higley roads in Gilbert, police said.

The motorcyclist, Terry Tipton, 54, of Queen Creek, was traveling north on Higley Road and collided with a Chevy S-10 pickup driven by Tyler Lent, 18, of Mesa, who was traveling south on Higley Road and made a left turn in front of the motorcycle.

Police said Tipton was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, which is now under investigation. Speed and alcohol did not play a part, police said.

Lent sustained no injuries.

Police closed off the intersection at Higley and Pecos roads during the morning rush hour and reopened it about 9:30 a.m.
