Mother's Day gift option for museum members

Kayla Kolar, executive director of the Gilbert Historical Museum, suggests a Mother's Day gift option for museum members.

With Mother's Day fast approaching, here's a creative idea of how you can treat your mom (sister, aunt, mother-in-law, wife, grandmother, etc!) and help the Gilbert Historical Museum at the same time.

Candy Bouquet and Unique Gifts, located in the plaza on the northeast corner of Lindsay and Warner roads, is one of the coolest candy/gift boutiques around. They call themselves the "Sweetest Spot in Town," and with good reason. They can create the most unique and specialized arrangements that your 'mom' will remember forever.

Before you start thinking that I'm moonlighting as the marketing manager for Candy Bouquet, here's how your visit to their store will help the museum.

When you make a purchase at the Candy Bouquet and tell them that you are with the Gilbert Historical Society and Museum, 10 percent of your purchase price will come back to the museum! We are working very hard at the museum to become a fully self-sustaining operation so that we are around for generations to come. This is one easy way that you can help ensure that history remains alive and well while honoring your special 'mom' at the same time.

However, this promotion is good year-round any time you need a gift for someone. And they will ship, too! This is my favorite place to shop!

Candy Bouquet is open Monday - Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., their phone number is 480-545-4438, and their website is www.3345.candybouquet.com.

While you're there, you can also pick up a copy of our new history of Gilbert book by Dale Hallock, From Cowboys and Sodbusters to a Mega-Residential Community.

Events happening at the museum this month include the third annual quilt show which will close at the end of May, and our Memorial Day celebration at 9 a.m. May 26 on the front lawn.

We will be unveiling two new monuments dedicated to the Viet Nam and Korean war veterans from Gilbert, visitors will be able to tour the museum for free until noon that day, and there will be a sneak preview of the newly remodeled meeting room which is a project of Gilbert Leadership Class XVI. Come out and join us!
