City briefs: Become member of boards

SCOTTSDALE - Residents are encouraged to get involved by becoming a member of the city's boards and commissions.

The deadline to submit applications is Jan. 5.

The Scottsdale City Council will review applications and make nominations on Jan. 20. Interviews for those nominated are scheduled for Feb. 17. The council will then appoint residents to three-year terms.

Visit www.scottsdaleaz.gov for a full list of vacancies and an application. Follow links for "Mayor, Council and Government" and "Boards and Commissions."

The application can also be e-mailed to residents who call 480-312-2412, or be picked up in the City Clerk's office in City Hall, 3939 N. Drinkwater Blvd.

Scottsdale Fire Department kicks-off Toys for Tots program

SCOTTSDALE - The Fire Department's annual toy drive is under way and continues through Dec. 25.

Donations will go to the U.S. Marines Toys for Tots Program and Paiute Community Center.

Residents who want to donate can drop off new, unwrapped toys to a Scottsdale fire station or the Witzeman Public Safety Building, 8401 E. Indian School Road.

To locate your nearest fire station, visit www.scottsdalefd.com or call 480-312-8000. Fire stations are manned at all times but residents should stop by between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Ring the door bell and let the firefighters know about your donation. If there isn't an answer, crews may be responding to an emergency.

Donations can be dropped off in the main lobby of the Witzeman Public Safety Building from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Green building workshop to discuss wall and roof systems

SCOTTSDALE - The next Green Building workshop will be about manufactured wall and roof systems.

The workshop is part of the city's Green Building program that shows residents ways to reduce energy consumption and impacts to the environment through building design.

The workshop is from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at the Granite Reef Senior Center, 1700 N. Granite Reef Road.
