A weekend of icy, hot fun

On Friday night, a man will make snow in Old Town Scottsdale.

About 10 tons of the stuff fall, to be exact.

His name is Steve LeVine, and he makes a lot of cool stuff happen in this city, although tonight, I mean that literally. LeVine runs SLE, the events company behind memorable events such as P. Diddy rocking Axis/Radius before the Super Bowl and the Cirque du Soleil performers dancing at the W Scottsdale Hotel and Residences' grand opening.

And tonight, he's transforming the massive dance club Axis/Radius into a winter wonderland with all that snow, liquor, snow cones and 20-foot snow slides.

LeVine is one of the few men in town who consistently delivers more than he promises, and he's a man who promises a lot. So when he tells me that Snow is going to be the party of the season, I'm inclined to believe him. And you really should wear white, because it's fun and festive and because it's not like people ask you to dress a certain way all the time.

Details: Axis/Radius, After 9 p.m.; wear white for no cover before 11 p.m., reduced cover after, 7340 E. Indian School Road, Scottsdale, 480-970-1112, axis-radius.com;

I've also found the greatest way ever to spend a Sunday afternoon.

The local DJ Mr. P-Body is friends with everyone in this city, and I am one of those friends. He also knows about pretty much everything worth doing in this city. So when he invites me, I show up. And when I went to the Vig in Phoenix last Sunday, I was so glad I did.

P-Body is in a still-nameless band that packs the Arcadia neighborhood bar on Sundays from 2 to 6 p.m.

The wait is hours and hours for a table, but fortunately, you'll know people there, people who will probably already have a table and will invite you to cram in with them.

The band is awesome, and I am not just saying that because I like P-Body. The men are Daylon Greer on vocals and guitar, a young man who calls himself Ringo on drums, Gin Blossom's guitarist Scott Johnson and P-body on bass.

They play a mix of rocking and acoustic covers and mash-ups from Kid Rock to Lynyrd Skynyrd to Neil Diamond. They draw a crowd of 20- to 50-somethings, the women like Botoxed yoga instructors, the men like real-estate investors.

Details: Vig, 4041 40th St., Phoenix, 602-553-7227, thevig.us.
