A 21-year-old Surprise man was shot in the upper chest last week in an incident that could involve several white supremacists, police say.
The victim, whose name was not released, was treated for non-life- threatening injuries and was released, said Sgt. Mark Ortega, a Surprise police spokesman.
Ortega said the man did not want to aid in prosecution but that an investigation is ongoing.
The Nov. 28 incident began when police were notified by staff at Banner Boswell Medical Center in Sun City of a gunshot victim.
The victim told police an unidentified man shot him in front of a home in the 15000 block of West Rockrose Way, near Parkview Place and Bell Road.
Ortega said a dispute over gang allegiances led to the shooting. Police believe that the incident may involve several white supremacist members, according to initial statements.
Though the victim did not want to press charges, Surprise police are pursuing the case.
"You just can't go around shooting people," Ortega said.
