Shakespeare festival visits Surprise on Sunday

The Surprise Community and Recreation Services Department submitted this information.

This fall the Arizona Shakespeare Festival hits the road with a statewide tour of the romantic comedy As You Like It.

The professional theater company, headquartered in Prescott, will stop to perform at the Surprise Recreation Campus Community Park, 15953 N. Bullard Ave., Sunday at 2 p.m. The event is free.

Bring a blanket and your appetite, as there will be Shakespearean cuisine, including turkey legs, steak on a stick, roasted nuts and more. The show will last approximately two hours.

Don't be alarmed if you are sitting by a "Lady of the Court," a peasant or a "Knight of Order," all from the Arizona Renaissance Festival, as they also will be in attendance to entertain the audience.

Arizona Shakespeare Festival was founded in 1999 by theater veterans Mason and Kelly Johnston. Professional theater members and guest actors have performed in both outdoor and indoor venues in Prescott and throughout the state over the last decade.
