Each year hundreds of Lions Clubs around the world hold vision screenings, community education programs, and special projects in October as part of Lions World Sight Day. Lions World Sight Day was created in 1998 to spotlight the importance of eradicating preventable blindness and improving sight.
The 2008 International events were held in Arizona last week. Lions International President Albert Brandel and his wife, Dr. Maureen Murphy, presided over the events.
Lions in Arizona held screenings in Window Rock, diabetes eye testing at the Arizona Lions Vision Center in Phoenix, and glaucoma testing at the Community Center in El Mirage. The Lions of Surprise and the Sun Cities also hosted a breakfast for Brandel and his wife last Friday at My Favorite Martins at Sun Village in Surprise.
