Avondale police: 1 dead, 2 arrested in gang-related murder

Avondale police found a man dead in a car early Tuesday morning in what police are calling a gang-related murder.

Police responded to a 911 call shortly before 1 a.m. When they arrived at the neighborhood, near 119th Avenue and West Lower Buckeye Road, they found a man about 20 years old inside his car with a gunshot wound to the head, Sgt. Todd Lovesaid. His identity had not been confirmed by police Tuesday afternoon.

The victim had ties to two other men police had been investigating for months. Search warrants were served at two locations in Avondale, and police seized multiple weapons, including handguns and assault weapons. Both men, believed to be gang members, were arrested and face multiple criminal charges, Love said.

Their identities were not immediately available.
