A garbage truck caught fire while heading west on Interstate 10 Wednesday morning, restricting traffic on the highway off-ramp at Dysart Road and causing delays for Thanksgiving Day travelers.
The fire started in the garbage load around 8 a.m. The driver noticed the fire and attempted to exit the highway but only made it to the exit ramp before stopping, a Department of Public Safety official said.
Fire crews were working to extinguish the blaze before removing the truck from the highway. The fire has caused heavy traffic for westbound travelers.
