Estrella Mtn. teacher honored as teacher of week

Submitted by Liberty Elementary School district.

Estrella Mountain fifth-grade teacher Michele Bove recently was named KNIX and Fulton Homes Teacher of the Week.

Unbeknownst to Bove, one of her students, Alyssa Evans, submitted Bove's name online to KNIXcountry.com and nominated her as someone who deserves to be recognized as teacher of the week.

"I think Mrs. Bove should be chosen teacher of the week because she helps us all learn, by putting the world at our fingertips and teaching us what we need to know with real life experiences" Alyssa wrote.

Bove was honored in front of her class with a surprise visit from Carolyn Coffey, who presented Bove with a certificate, the essay Alyssa had written, a bag of special prizes and a $500 cash prize.

"Mrs. Bove wants us to experience the world and has taken us on some great field trips to extend our minds," Alyssa wrote. "About 30 students were also able to participate in the Hands Across the Border Program due to Mrs. Bove's desire to bring a cultural experience to her students."

"I feel very honored," Bove said. "It's really nice to do something you love to do and then have kids do something like that which makes all the long nights, extra work and duties worth it!"

Alyssa's essay and Michele's winning moment will be aired on 102.5 KNIX Country, Friday between 6:20 and 7:20 a.m.
