About 125 volunteers tackled four projects in Goodyear on national Make a Difference Day Saturday.
• Mobile Elementary School - With donations of cash and materials valued at $6,000, 40 volunteers painted office and kitchen walls, fixed an eroding basin, built and filled a sandbox, and purchased an assortment of new books for the school.
• Arnold Manor home - Using time and resources valued at nearly $35,000, 25 volunteers went to work giving this residence a top-to-bottom makeover, with all-new siding, paint and landscaping rock. The back and front yards were thoroughly cleaned and troublesome bees were removed. Nearly 500 volunteer hours went into making the day's work possible.
• White Tanks Cemetery - More than $4,000 and the elbow grease of 25 volunteers made it possible to clean up the grounds, plant 20 trees and add 20 new benches.
• Historic Goodyear alleys - With the help of 35 volunteers, trash, brush and debris were removed from the alleys of this historic part of Goodyear.
These Make a Difference Day projects were made possible through the generosity of businesses and volunteers who contributed time and resources. We thank those who worked so hard to make a difference in Goodyear, especially Tammy Billman of Jaetam General Contracting and Nancy Herrington of Mr. Handyman of the West Valley for their commitment and dedication in organizing this event and mobilizing the parties.
