Millennium High band achieves top honors

Stephanie Wolf, "proud mom" and Millennium High School Band Booster secretary, submitted this article.

Members of the Millennium High School Band, 128 members strong, normally wake up around 5:15 each morning for practice and have an evening rehearsal every Tuesday during marching season.

Last Saturday, their hard work and determination paid off, as they received the highest rating in Millennium High School's history.

The band traveled to Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff to participate in the NAU Band Day, receiving "superiors" in music performance, auxiliary and percussion; with "excellent" ratings in visual performance and general effect. They then traveled back to the Valley to compete the same evening at the Agua Fria Band Day "Music Along the Estrellas" event.

MHS put on its best show thus far, scoring an 85.4, winning second in its division (behind Chandler High School) and earning a superior-with-distinction rating, the highest rating in school history.

The band now turns its attention to the State Marching Band Competition at 4 p.m. todayat Glendale Community College.

Special thanks to Agua Fria High School District, MHS Principal Dennis Runyan, the Band Booster parents and the community.
