Tempe woman dies after apartment fire

TEMPE - A 58-year-old woman died in her Tempe home early Sunday morning after a fire spread through her apartment, fire officials said.

The fire started around 2:30 a.m. and was contained to the woman's apartment in the Hidden Glen complex on Third Street, southeast of Rio Salado Parkway and Hardy Drive, said fire spokesman Deems Shepard.

Authorities have not yet released the victim's name.

Firefighters found the woman unconscious in the apartment and she later died at the hospital. No one else was hurt or displaced in the blaze, and fire officials are still looking into the cause. Damage to the apartment is estimated at $75,000, Shepard said.
