A Tempe house fire Tuesday morning resulted in the injury of one occupant and the death of a dog, officials said.
The injured occupant suffered from burns and smoke inhalation, and was taken to the Maricopa County Hospital Burn Unit for treatment. The dog was taken to a veterinary hospital, but could not be saved, said Mike Reichling, a spokesman for the Tempe Fire Department.
The fire broke out at 7:05 a.m. inside a rental home in the 1100 block of West Ninth Street. Two occupants and two pit bulls were inside the home at the time, Reichling said.
The Tempe Fire Department located a smoke detector inside the home that had been disabled prior to the fire, Reichling said.
The cause is still under investigation and the extent of the damage is unknown, Reichling said.
