More than 11,000 in W. Valley still eligible for tax rebate

More than 11,000 West Valley residents still haven't applied for their federal rebate checks. Nearly 2,300 of those live in the Southwest Valley, from Laveen to Buckeye.

Congress decided to give tax rebates to consumers and businesses this year to stimulate the slowing economy.

The deadline to apply for a check is Oct. 15. Residents who don't normally file an income tax form, which is required to receive the payment, can get help next Saturday in Avondale. Trained volunteers will answer questions. Spanish assistance is available.
