Grant to get students active

McDonald's Owner/Operators of Arizona and the Arizona Parent Teacher Association has announced that Nadaburg Elementary School is a Go Active! Academics Award winner, receiving a $1,000 grant for its "Walk to School Day" program.

Nadaburg Elementary School is one of 10 Arizona PTA schools receiving grants for creative educational programs that demonstrate an original approach to enhancing first- to eighth-grade students' physical fitness, nutrition awareness and/or health education.

According to Nadaburg PTA president Marssia Cisneros, grant funds will be used to support the school's "Walk to School Day" program encouraging students and parents to walk or bicycle bike to school on a regular basis. The program will promote safety, health, concern for the environment and physical activity among children.

Musical, art show at Mtn. View

Mountain View School students, under the direction of teachers Mary Jane McCloskey and Cheryl Offi, have written an original script for their fall musical, Remembering Walt. The musical, which will be performed Oct. 9 at 6:30 p.m., is based on the life of the Walt Disney.

Mountain View students also will present an art show featuring Disney art techniques, opening at 5:30 p.m.

Admission is free, however, the choir will be selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts with proceeds to benefit the school's choir program. Doughnuts can be pre-ordered in boxes of one dozen by picking up an order form in the school office and submit with the $6 payment by Tuesday. The doughnuts can be picked up at the show on Oct. 9.

College 101 for students, parents

The Dysart Unified School District is offering three College 101 fairs to its high school students and parents. The college fairs aim to provide parents and students a chance to get answers to questions regarding all aspects of college and to meet many college representatives.

The Dysart College 101 fairs will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Dysart High School, Nov. 3 at the district office governing board rooms and Dec. 1 at Willow Canyon High School.

Participating colleges include Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, University of Arizona, Universal Technical Institute, Maricopa Beauty College, Collins College and the Maricopa Community Colleges.
