Here is some good news for cooking buffs who think they can take the heat of being in the spotlight: Open casting calls for the popular Fox series Hell's Kitchen will be held in Scottsdale on Oct. 6 and 7.
The Gordon Ramsay show features contestants who must work under the tutelage of the blustery, often-bleeped chef. However, applicants need not be chefs: "Food lovers, experienced chefs, cooks, fast food and cafeteria workers, private chefs, weekend gourmets and caterers" are all encouraged to try out, according to the Fox Web site.
During the 2007 season, two Valley chefs found in a local casting call were featured on the show. However, neither Brad Miller nor Tiffany Nagel made it to the final two. In fact, Nagel achieved the dubious distinction of being the first chef to get sent home by Ramsay.
Casting calls will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Scottsdale Culinary Institute, 4301 N. Scottsdale Road, Suite 260; and 5 to 10 p.m. Oct. 7 at Barcelona, 15440 N. Greenway Hayden Loop. Visit fox.com/hellskitchen/casting.htm for additional information.
And, sorry, autograph hounds: Ramsay will not be in attendance.
