Meanwhile, evacuated residents living near the fire have returned home.
Deputy Chief Dave Martin with the Gila River Fire Department says the fire grew to 5,400 acres as of Saturday night. The fire was 30 to 35 percent contained by nightfall.
Martin says fire fighters haven't contained the fire, but they're keeping it from advancing.
The blaze broke out Wednesday afternoon, sending huge plumes of smoke above the Phoenix metro area. Officials say it was caused by lightning.
No homes have been lost to the fire, but Martin says it came within 50 yards of some residences.
