Quarterback Rudy Carpenter and running back Keegan Herring have been named to the Maxwell Award Watch List, presented annually to the outstanding collegiate football player in America.
Safety Troy Nolan has been named to the Bednarik Award Watch List, awarded annually to the nation's top defensive player.
Carpenter threw for 3,202 yards and 25 touchdowns in 2007, and was an honorable mention all-Pac-10 selection for the second straight season. Herring led the Sun Devils with 815 rushing yards and five touchdowns in 2007. Nolan earned second team all-Pac-10 honors in 2007, after leading the team with six interceptions, the most by a Sun Devil since 1989. He also returned two for touchdowns, tying a school record. Nolan is also on the watch list for the Nagurski Award and the Lott Trophy.
The winner of the 2008 Maxwell Award as well as the 2008 Chuck Bednarik Award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show in December.
