You can find great Halloween decorations at almost any store. But when you have a small fortune in art supplies at home, it almost seems a crime to opt for anything pre-made. But don't feel guilty - go ahead and indulge in those manufactured goodies (some are just too fun to resist).
If you're like me, you are probably drawn to the accessories that could use an extra layer of embellishment. I spotted adorable wire lanterns at Target and got goose bumps at the possibilities. My first thought: "Hello, glass paints!" Supplies can be found at local craft stores, and lanterns are sold at Target with the Halloween merchandise.
Supplies:
Glass lantern
Delta Glass Paint surface conditioner
Delta Iridescent Glass Paint in assorted fall colors
Toothpick
Paper towel
Directions: Squeeze some of the surface conditioner onto the paper towel and rub it over the areas that you will be painting. Let dry. Pick an area to apply the paint, starting from the center of the design and working out. After shaking the bottle, gently squeeze paint onto the glass - apply only a thin layer and move it around with the bottle's pointed nozzle. Use the toothpick to reach small crevices. Continue with the other areas of the lantern. Complete one side at a time and lay lantern flat to dry. Add a second layer of color if desired, but don't apply too much at one time or it will run. Use the paper towel to wipe off any excess paint.
